doors

After some simple market research (kudos Survey Monkey), “Create Blank” is likely not my new shop’s name and more so a euphemism for my current state of progress. Since taking the plunge and devoting myself full time to this endeavor, little has materialized.

I’ve putzed around with the business name and logo and discovered “the Canvas, Art Bar & Bistro” has more market appeal than “Create Blank”. I’ve found my ideal location and lost it to an indecisive owner. I’m currently at war with a gelato shop over another location that I’m still convincing myself is right… And I’m resolved to a Grand Opening in February rather than the anticipated and much hoped for December 1 date.

Now, here I am in Byron Bay, Australia, enjoying my holiday, but also instituting a daily ritual of surfing Craigslist posts for advertising positions. I’ve puffed out my LinkedIn feathers, sent 3 applications for part-time or contract management gigs, and while I’ve lined up freelance work at TNG, I can’t help but get excited at the potential of working at a creative, integrated and traditionally-rooted agency again.

I began this endeavor with the promise that “when one door closes, another one opens.” Now I find myself frantically twisting doorknobs to increase my chances. At least my reprieve has rested me up for the portent of workaholism. I surely can walk through multiple doors at the same time… Right?
